GSA does not in general make any significant distinction between beams, columns and braces, and this can result in difficulty when coordinating with BIM models. The Model > Coordination tools > Rationalise sections for BIM coordination option to allows for sections to be separated into distinct sections for vertical and non-vertical elements or members.
Update From GSA and Import From GSA
Normally the section properties are derived from the section geometry, but in some cases it is convenient to modify some of the parameters.
The profile defines the shape of the section.
The properties of a beam (or related) element are determined by the section shape and material. These are defined through a section definition and separate material definitions. In the most general case a section can be comprise of several component parts and may vary in along the length of the element. The variation along the length can be either a variation of the section dimensions, or in the case of a concrete section a variation in the reinforcement.
With time sections can be superseded - this allow old sections to be replaced with the new/updated sections. This should make minimal impact on the model
