Scaling for printed output (and changed window sizes)

There are various ways of specifying the structure scale, as discussed above. Broadly these fall into three categories: scaling to fit, by zooming and by specifying the scale explicitly. What happens to the scale when producing a printed graphical output or whenever the picture size changes depends on how the current scale was specified, as follows.

Was scaled to fit

• The image is scaled to fit the new picture size.

Was by zoom (or the model was rotated since a scale to fit)

• The image is scaled to result in at least the extents previously shown being visible in the new picture. More will be visible in one direction if the aspect ratio of the new and old picture sizes are not the same.

Was explicitly defined and locked

• The scale is not changed.

This default behaviour may be over-ridden by specifying the structure scale for the printed image in the Graphic settings dialog box.
