How to use the IDEA StatiCa export function in GSA

  1. Make sure IDEA StatiCa 22.1 or newer version and .NET framework 4.8 are installed.
  2. Make sure GSA preferences settings (from menu Tools > Preferences... to open the setting) are set up as follows
    • On the Basic tab, uncheck Open a new model in a new instance
    • On the Miscellaneous tab, check Create a new GSA instance for every COM object requested
  3. Open a GSA model with steel members.
  4. Make sure the steel members are defined with associated elements and design materials.
  5. Members that are joined at a node will be exported as a StatiCa connection.
  6. Run an Export command from menu File > Export > IDEA StatiCa... , this will open the Export settings dialog box.
  7. On the Export setting dialog box:
    • The default export folder is filled, but it can be changed if needed
    • Define a node number that is connected to members, this will be the exported connection
    • Define a combination case from which the forces/moments for the connection are extracted
  8. Click the Export button, the export will start and progress messages are populated to the status box.
  9. If the export is successful, the IDEA StatiCa connection program with the exported connection will be opened. Your connection design can now be done in the StatiCa program.
