Description

Effective length calculation options are part of a Member 1D. These options are available for 1D members when the section material is steel. They define the properties relating to design from the interaction of the member with the rest of the structure. Refer to Member Design properties to read more.

Properties

Icon Type Name Description
TextParamTextCalculation OptionThe option of the Effective Length calculation.
TextParamTextMember Restraint StartRestraint Description Syntax for Member End Restraint at Member Start
TextParamTextMember Restraint StartRestraint Description Syntax for Member End Restraint at Member End
TextParamTextRestraint Along MemberThe internal continous restraint along the member.
TextParamTextIntermediate Bracing Point RestraintsThe internal restraint at intermediate bracing points of the member.
GenericParamGenericEffective Length About YThe user-defined effective length about y.
GenericParamGenericEffective Length About ZThe user-defined effective length about y.
GenericParamGenericEffective Length LTBThe user-defined effective length for lateral torsional buckling.
NumberParamNumberDestabilising Load HeightDestabilising Load Height in model units
TextParamTextLoad PositionThe destabilising load height is relative to this reference position.
NumberParamNumberFactor LsyMoment Amplification Factor, Strong Axis
NumberParamNumberFactor LszMoment Amplification Factor, Weak Axis
NumberParamNumberEquivalent uniform moment factor for LTBOverride the automatically calculated factor to account for the shape of the moment diagram in lateral torsional buckling design equations. This override is applied for all bending segments in the member. This override is applied to the following variable for each design code:
AISC 360: C_b
AS 4100: alpha_m
BS 5950: m_LT
CSA S16: omega_2
EN 1993-1-1 and EN 1993-1-2: C_1
Hong Kong Code of Practice: m_LT
IS 800: C_mLT
SANS 10162-1: omega_2
